Proverbs 13:1.A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. In 12:1, we took notice of the one who hates correction is identified as brutish, stupid; here we learn this same person is called a scoffer. I am not sure the word “scoffer” communicates an idea easily understood. The English rendering of the LXX uses the word disobedient, the Jewish Publication Society (JPS) uses the words scorner. The New English Translation (NET) study note reads, “The ‘scoffer’ is the worst kind of fool. He has no respect for authority, reviles worship of God, and is unteachable because he thinks he knows it all.” This gives a pretty good idea.
