Proverbs 27:1. Boast not thyself of to-morrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Do you know what will happen tomorrow? I don’t; it may be that I have a good idea about what will take place the following day, but I still can’t say I know what will happen. Neither do you. If neither of us know, then why speak as if we do know? In the American Standard Version, the word used for those who do this is “boast” (also used in the ESV, NET, JPS and the English rendering of the LXX). What should we understand about the word? Look at Proverbs 25:14. Unless one boasts in the Lord, his boasting is associated with evil.
